If planning 2026 already feels overwhelming, you are not alone. Many driven investors and professionals stay busy all year, yet still feel behind on what actually matters. They grow businesses, chase goals, and manage responsibilities, but family time and personal priorities slowly get pushed aside.
This is not a motivation problem. It is a planning problem. In a recent training, Casey Gregersen shared the exact framework he uses to plan his year. The same system that enabled him to grow multiple businesses, complete over 70 real estate transactions, and still plan a two-week trip to Africa with his kids.
The goal for 2026 is not to do more. The goal is to focus on the right things in the correct order.
Most people start annual planning by listing business goals first. This usually includes things like:
Family time and personal goals get added later, if there is room. Most of the time, there is not. The result is a packed calendar that appears productive but feels empty by year’s end. A better approach completely flips the order.
One of the core ideas in this planning system is the Rocks, Dirt, and Sand framework. Your time works the same way a jar does.
If you fill your schedule with sand first, the rocks will not fit. When you place the rocks first, everything else finds its place.
Planning family time first is not emotional. It is strategic. When family priorities are protected on the calendar, business decisions become clearer.
You know exactly why you are building and what you are building toward. This includes intentionally scheduling:
Board Days are distraction-free days with your kids, planned every 90 days.
No work.
No phone.
Just presence.
When these moments are scheduled first, they stop getting pushed aside by urgency.
Before narrowing anything down, start with a complete brain dump. Write down everything you want from 2026, including:
Nothing is filtered at this stage. The purpose is clarity, not commitment. Once everything is written down, it becomes much easier to see what truly matters versus what only feels urgent.
After the brain dump, goals are ranked using the ICE scoring system.
Each goal is evaluated on:
Each score reveals what deserves focus. High-impact, high-confidence goals rise quickly. Low-impact distractions fall away. This prevents chasing too many ideas at once and creates momentum that lasts.
Waiting until January puts you behind before the year even begins. By then, momentum is already working against you. Planning in December gives you clarity early. Your calendar reflects priorities instead of reacting to them. When January arrives, execution has begun.
This framework is not about squeezing more productivity out of your schedule. It is about alignment.
When your calendar reflects your values:
The real win in 2026 is not just better business results. It is building a life where success and family move forward together.
This approach works well for real estate investors, W2 professionals building a side business, parents, and anyone overwhelmed by competing priorities.
No. The framework applies to any profession or stage of life.
Most people can complete the initial planning in a few focused sessions.
The clarity lasts all year.
Life will always change. This system provides structure, allowing you to adapt without compromising your priorities.
